Mission:
The Great Council
Location: Lionshead Hall, Kings Landing
Timeline: The Day of the Funeral of King Waynn I
Lionshead Hall was an ornate manse located near the Dragon Gate in King’s Landing. Built by Lord Tyrion Lannister, when he served as Hand of the King to Bran I, from the red stone salvaged during the rebuilding of the Red Keep. The manse wasn’t the largest in the city, but it was impressive. Ovular in shape, the red stone structure surrounded an interior courtyard. A well manicured garden backed the lot.
Lionshead Hall had been inhabited of late by the children of Lord Myles Lannister of Casterly Rock. The twin girls, Myrielle and Myrcella, were ladies at King Waynn’s court. The boys attended court as well, but were not as involved as the teen girls were.
When news of King Waynn’s passing arrived at Casterly Rock, Lord Myles and his wife Lady Lynora set out for the capital with a contingent of guards. Along the road, Lord Myles was sure to send a raven with instructions for his children. To wait until he had arrived and not leave Lionshead Hall.
The Lord of Casterly Rock and his Lady entered the city by way of the Dragon Gate on the day of the Funerary service for the late King and made immediately for Lionshead Hall, where their four children waited.
All four children were clothed in black and seemed surprised to see that their parents were not. Lyle for one, was vocal about this fact. “And why aren’t you in black?” He asked before saying so much as hello.
Stettin elbowed his brother's ribs. “Father. Mother.” He smiled and bowed at the neck.
The twins curtsied and hugged their mother immediately.
“Does this mean we can come out of morning?” Myrcella asked eagerly.
“Please say yes. How can we be expected to find husbands dressed like the Stranger?” Myrielle added.
Lord Lannister nodded. “Today will be the last day. That much is promised.” He spoke with a natural authority. “Since we will not attend the funeral, we must be sure you are all presentable for the reception at the Red Keep.
Lynora nodded. She was not wearing black because she wasn’t sad the Waynn was dead. He was always inappropriate with her when she and her husband were at court, and he didn’t seem to have any shame about trying in front of Myles too. But appearances were important. “Girls, why don’t you help me pick out something black to wear to the reception?”
The twins giggled and grabbed their mother’s hands, leading her to a staircase that took them to the living quarters.
Myles stayed behind, gesturing for his sons to sit at the oaken table that occupied the great room.
“Are you finally going to tell us why you’ve ordered us to stay home?” Lyle asked incredulously.
“These next few days will be very important for us.” Lord Lannister said, eyeing Lyle and then Steffon. “My hope is that when I depart King’s Landing I have found matches for all of you and set you up with higher positions at court that will help you to foster relationships and alliances for Casterly Rock.”
Steffon nodded. Though he was the eldest and set to inherit when Myles died, Steffon wasn’t the brightest man in any of the kingdoms. And although he didn’t understand every subtlety of what his father was saying, he was certain it would make sense when things were laid out for him.
Lyle on the other hand crossed his arms and slunk into his seat. He didn’t want a life at court. It was his desire to take a ship east and live in the Free Cities. Perhaps even travel to Quarth or Slaver’s Bay. He wanted to explore and experience things that Casterly Rock and King’s Landing didn’t have. For now at least, it wouldn’t do to argue with Myles. For now, he had to go along with his Father’s plan.
Bells rang out, filling the city with rhythmic noise for a moment. “That’ll be the start of the Funeral service.” Myles spoke confidently. “I need to dress and then we will head out for the Red Keep.” He bent down, both of his hands pressed on the wooden table. “While we are there, you will speak to whom I tell you. If I say to dance with someone, you will dance. And I will have no questions about it. King Waynn nearly ruined our house with his unsavoury appetites, and I will not have my own sons stop me from rebuilding it.” He stood upright. “Both of you, get shaved and put yourselves together. We will leave in an hour.”
Steffon nodded and got up, Lyle followed after a lengthy eye roll. Thankfully Lord Lannister had already begun to ascend the stairs to hurry the women along.
“I suppose we’ll be married me soon.” Said Steffon with a toothy grin.
“Shut up.” Replied Lyle, pushing past his older brother and climbing the stairs to find a razor.
